A Temporary Keeping.

There is not much you get to keep in life. There is not much that you can really call yours.

But it’s those few things that you do, in fact get to keep, that maintain your hold on them ever so strong, your grip ever so tight, and your will to never let go, ever so focused.

Yet as time passes, you start to ponder, if even those keep-able things can ever really be yours: if they’re worth keeping after all. Because as the clock hands make their daily rounds in such casual airs, you come to realize that maybe you keep nothing.

Maybe all you do is borrow, and it becomes a temporary ‘keep’.

Yes, that must be it.
It would explain why things go, why others stay.

Maybe life is a sign out sheet.
I sign you out.
I sign it out.

Then at the due date, we all return to our places in the shelf, until something else comes along; until someone else comes along:

And it becomes the start of a new temporary keeping...

carpe.. do you need a hug??

although that was absolutely beautiful and pleasant to read.. the after thought is extremely depressing..

well written my friend.. very well written..

  • Carpe Diem Says:

    DUDE.
    I knew it.
You have found a time vortex to hide in, full of salt and vinegar chips, chocolate chip cookies, and M&Ms. Not fair, you must share co-ordinates.

I'm really not one for hugs, except from Chubby Cheeks, my friend and my mother, but the offer is oh so generous. And that was not sarcasm :)

Mmm, after re-reading, it is somewhat depressing, but it's one answer closer to what ever it is I'm looking to answer.

    Makes sense? Maybe? No? Meh.

Thank you, thank you *bows* :)

  • frogman Says:

    Are you calling me fat??

and how about we substitute that hug voucher with a High Five?

in a very grim setting, it probably does hold a few answers... :)

  • Carpe Diem Says:

I am not calling you fat! You're....froggie =)

And yay! *High fives you back*!

  • vinnie Says:

There r things that belong to you forever. Until they r taken back to ther creator

Not everything is for temporary keep. Life wouldn't be worth living if it was like that

  • Sana H. Says:

    Beautifully described! That's exactly it.

  • Carpe Diem Says:

Vinnie: "There are things that belong to you forever. Until they are taken back to ther creator" - I find that contradictory. It's doesn't belong you if it goes back to it's creator. It belong to the Creator, and you temporarily keep it, until it must return.

I beg to differ on the last part, I think value comes into play due to the fact that nothing is for keeps. Having something, then not having it, gives it is own value. Otherwise, everything would be take for granted. It sort of ties in with the idea where it's better to know/have someone/something for a little while, than never at all.

Sana H.: Why thank you! And welcome :)

  • S Says:

Chubby Cheeks will give you a big hug today! :)

  • vinnie Says:

    hmmm
ya I guess, when u look at it that way u r right

The thing is u ur self r not permenant
The way i was thinking about it is family for example, u have them forever until natural reasons take them away from you (making them temporary according to your theory)
Which is true, but then, ur whole existance in this world is temporay. And only god is permenant
    My two cents worth :)
    ========
May I ask what brought this up?

  • Carpe Diem Says:

S - YAY! *Jumps up and down*. Tomorrow though, tomorrow I gets my hug!

Vinnie - Mmm, I see where you're coming from, but I like my way better 'cause I'm cool like that? I kids, I kids.
God is permanent, and so is yourself. Not you as a human, but your defining components - those are yours to keep forever.

I guess I was thinking of how one dies alone, in a closed space, with his essence and his deeds (which classify under defining components), and if the story ends thus, then maybe the reality is that simple as well.

It's true, everything we have we'll lose eventually, I just need to leave a mark on it that will forever be embedded and remembered.

  • Carpe Diem Says:

Interesting...but it all depends on how well your memory serves you. How big of an impact you make.
